Find the Source Before Arguing About How Quickly Someone Mopped
Wet-floor matters are often argued as though the only question is response time. The more useful question is where the water came from, because the source determines whether the condition was a foreseeable recurrence the operator should have engineered out or a genuine one-off event.
Tracked-in water during a Chicago winter is foreseeable and is managed with matting, entry design and an escalated inspection routine. Condensation forming on a slab because supply air is unbalanced against a humid space recurs whenever the same conditions return, typically at vestibules, cooler doors and loading areas.
Once the source is established the analysis turns to duration and response: what the cleanup protocol required, who was responsible, what triggered a response and what the records show was actually done. Inspection intervals, staffing at that time of day and the traffic through the area all bear on how long a condition would have existed before someone performing the written routine should have found it.
