The party names for a conflict check, the incident location, the matter type and your operative deadlines. Attaching the incident report and any photographs allows a view on scope and fit to be given quickly rather than after a further exchange.

Immediately in most cases. Party names are checked against prior and current engagements, and you are told either that the matter is clear or that it is not. Where a deadline is close, say so in the first message so the sequence can be compressed.

Is an initial discussion chargeable?

An initial conversation to establish scope, fit and availability is not treated as an engagement. No fee information is published on this site; terms are agreed directly with retaining counsel once the matter is confirmed as a fit.

Which matters are outside this scope?

Accepted Answer
