The Production That Makes an Early View Worth Having
The most useful first set is small. The incident report, photographs and any video, the inspection and janitorial logs covering the period before the incident, work orders for the area, the housekeeping policy in force, prior complaints for the same location, and the flooring specification where it is known.
Weather records matter wherever tracked-in moisture is alleged. Hourly precipitation and temperature for the period before the incident, matched against the entry configuration and the inspection interval actually run that day, separate foreseeable conditions handled with an unchanged routine from a sudden unforecast event.
Where janitorial or repair work was outsourced, the vendor contract and its scope belong in the production too. Responsibility for a walking surface is frequently split between landlord, tenant, managing agent and contractor, and a gap between two scopes is a common place for a condition to survive. Those documents are read alongside what actually happened on site.
